It’s had been a while since I last talk about Korean travel. So for today I will be talking about my last visit to Korea ^^
As most of my readers would have known that my very first Korean drama is ‘My Name is Kim Sam Soon’, therefore I won’t want to miss visiting the drama shooting location.

The shooting location that I’m gonna talk about is Kim Sam Soon’s House. Many Kim Sam Soon’s fans should have remember that Kim Sam Soon (Kim Sun Ah) mortgage her father house to Hyun Jin Heon (Hyun Bin) in order to pay off the debts. This is also how their relationships started to grow.

Many will have remember that this wooden pavilion (Picture 1). Yup, that was where Jin Heon (Hyun Bin) had always sat to wait for Kim Sam Soon to alight from the bus. However the wooden pavilion is slightly different from what is shown in the drama. Think it might have been renovated.

Next we have arrived at the O’Wall Wine & Pasta by HJ. If you remember, this store used to be a convenience store where Kim Sam Soon asked for a cigarette to smoke. ^^

Moving on I turned back and took another photo. This is the road where Kim Sam Soon used to walk home after she alighted from the bus.

Next coming to the long slope way to Kim Sam Soon’s House. This slope is quite steep and I think I can really lose weight if I would to climb up and down everyday ^^

Tala! And here we are outside Kim Sam Soon’s House. The gate had been painted in white (if I don’t remember wrongly, it used to be in blue or silver)

I actually took a peep inside the house and see if anyone is living in the house. Unfortunately, no one was staying in the house and there is a small notice pasted at the side door – ‘House For Rent’. I also noticed that the swing was no longer there.

Overall I feel happy that I would able to visit the location, while looking at this photos really brought back alot of memories to me. Including the drama and my visit to the house.^^

Jindo, or “Jin Island,” located in South Jeolla province, is home to the “Jindogae.” a designated natural treasure. This species of dog receive special government protection.

A one-month old Jindo Gae on Jindo Island.

Most Jindogae fall into five categories, according to appearance;
1) Yellow dog (hwanggu,황구)
2) White dog (baekgu, 백구)
3) Gray dog (jaegu, 재구)
4) Tiger dog (hogu, 호구)
5) Four-eyed dog (nenunbagi, 네눈박이)

In very rare cased you can find Jindogae that are more reddish than yellow, or that have alternating colors like baduk board.

Jindogae are famous for being highly active and thoroughly faithful to their owners. There are many touching stories about them, like when one was found next to its owner five days after the owner had died, or about one that crossed several provinces to find its way home. It is a Korean dog, one well loved for its courage and strength despite its small size, and for its intelligence.

Have you ever heard of Son Gi Jeong, the Korean marathoner? He was Korea’s first gold medalist in the Olympic marathon.

Son Gi Jeong (Middle) – notice the Japan flag on his chest?

Having placed first in the event at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Another Korean marathoner, Nam Seung Yong won the bronze medal at the same event. Son Gi Jeong passed away in year 2002, but to this day he is highly respected by the Korean people as a national hero.

Sadly, however, his win is not recorded in Olympic history as being Korea’s first gold. At that time, Korea was a Japanese colony.

Son Gi Jeong was forced to compete for the Japanese team using the adopted Japanese name of Son Kitei, the Japanese pronunciation of the hanja making up his name.

As a nationalist, Son Gi Jeong refused to sign his name in Japanese and signed only his Korean name, and even sketched the shape of Korea beside his signatures. When interviewers asked him about his country, he would clarify that Korea was his mother country.

Son Gi Jeong had to wear a Japanese uniform when he went to Berlin. The athlete was a Korean, but he was a citizen of Imperial Japan. The day Son Gi Jeong won his gold medal, a Korean newspaper erased the Japanese flag on his uniform from the picture and published it on the front page. With this Japanese government imprisoned eight persons connected with the newspaper and suspended the publication’s operations for nine months.

The title seonsaengnim (선생님, teacher) means to someone who teaches, but in Korea it has a wide range of meanings.

You might have learned that “Mr.” or “Mrs.” in English is (씨,ssi) in Korean, but in fact it can be somehow rude to use it when speaking to someone far older than you.

In Korean seonsaengnim is sometimes used to mean the same thing as (씨,ssi), though it is used far more in reference to adult men than women.

Do not act surprised if you hear Koreans calling people seonsaengnim in places other than schools. For example, you’ll frequently hear store owners call male customers this.

Perhaps because people traditionally had a lot of respect for teachers and the elderly in Korea that this tradition began.

Others might include hospitals, where doctors might be called uisa seonsaengnim (Doctor Seonsaengnim), or even in beauty salons, where the person best at doing hair might be called seonsaengnim as well.

It would be safe to say that the word in used in a truly diverse range of ways in Korean.

When the program host asked: “Do all your mums always worry about you during school days?’

Kim Hyun Joong replied: “I often fight when I was a student and often go in and out of the the police station. The host was shocked wth Kim Hyun Joong’s words.

Kim Hyun Joong continued: “I thought fighting was cool, but now I understand that people need to have discipline. When I was in high school, I felt that the school taught things that are useless so I make my own decisions to drop out of the school. I feel sorry that I have done my mum wrong. Every time when my mum drove me to school, I would hided behind the school gates and wait until my mum had left, then I skipped class and escaped from the school.”

“During school days, my mum was taken to the school with a car because I was always fighting. She has to hide herself when reaching the school gate as she is afraid of losing face.”

Kim Hyun Joong also mentioned about how he debut as an artist. “I started working after dropping out of the school. One day, I was being selected by the company when I was working in the Family Restaurant (T.G.I. Friday)”
